Owner of Dog That Attacked 5-Year-Old Arrested

CALIFORNIA -- On May 19, 2013 Pleasanton police officers responded along with emergency medical crews to a Bernal Avenue apartment for a reported dog bite.  Officers and paramedics located a five-year-old boy with multiple facial injuries.  The resident and dog owner, 36-year-old Marc Kornberg, was home at the time.

Also present was the boy’s mother, 27-year-old Dublin resident Myrvete Lila.  The boy, whose name is not being released, was transported to a hospital where he was treated and later released.

“Boston,” a six year-old, 96 pound Presa Canario, was taken to the Alameda County Dog Shelter in Dublin.

Our investigation revealed this was the second incident of this type to occur in less than three months.

On March 6, 2013 the same boy was bitten in the face by the same dog.  The boy was treated and released from a local hospital.  As this was the first documented incident of this type involving this dog, the dog was placed on home quarantine at the request of the owner.  The dog was released from quarantine having not had any further issues.

As a result of the second dog bit, and the fact that in both cases the boy was left alone in a room with the dog, our investigation was sent to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Today, the District Attorney’s Office issued felony warrants for both Kornberg and Myrvete.

Pleasanton police detectives this afternoon located and arrested Kornberg and Myrvete without incident and they

were booked at Santa Rita Jail for PC 273a, Child Neglect and Endangerment. The boy was placed in protective custody with Alameda County Child Protective Services.

On May 28, 2013 a public dog hearing was held in Pleasanton and the dog was found to be vicious.
Consistent with the Pleasanton Municipal Code, the dog was ordered to be relocated to a rehab and training facility in Ohio.  The other option would have been to humanely euthanize the dog, but it was not required and Kornberg chose to send the dog away.

NIMBY - "Not in my backyard". Really, the title of this article should be "Pleasanton, California puts Ohioans in danger" by shuttling off their aggressive dogs to Ohio. Why not send all the rapists and murderers to Ohio as well?
